Emily Dickinson
Hope is the thing with feathers

Emily Dickinson
Esperanza es algo con plumas

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul;
And sings the tune without the words;
And never stops at all.

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land;
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity;
It asked a crumb of me.

Esperanza es algo con plumas
Que se sujeta en el alma
Y canta su tonada sin palabras
Y nunca se detiene.

Y se escucha más dulce en el vendaval;
Y lastimada debe estar la tormenta
Que pudiera consternar al pequeño pájaro
Que mantiene tibios a tantos.

Lo he escuchado en la tierra más fría
Y en el mar más extraño;
Mas nunca, en ningún extremo,
Ha pedido una migaja de mí.
